hints & tips

Getting started

You guide a powerful jetboat in a series of sprint races. Jetboats differ from other kinds of speedboat in that, rather than being powered by a propeller and steered by a rudder, a strong, directable jet of water is used for both propulsion and steering.

Satoru Important - you must activate the jet to steer, even when negotiating tight corners. Unlike land vehicles and conventional boats, operating the steering without propulsion from the jet has no effect.

To complete each race, you must pass through a series of 'gates' around the track. It is possible to miss a gate, but this gains the player a Fault. If you get 3 Faults, you will be disqualified from the race; however, every 4 gates successfully passed results in a Fault being given back. Tactical racers may therefore bypass gates occasionally to gain a racing advantage.

Obstacles around the track include jumps, hidden rocks and scenery features such as jetties and boats. Each course has a boundary - stray too far outside and you will be given a limited time to return, or risk being sent back to the beginning again.

There are 5 tracks to play, and each track stages a number of races based on difficulty level (Newcomer, Master, Ace) and direction (Straight, Reverse). You can also choose from up to 8 different superchamps, each with different racing characteristics.

Important - not all tracks and champs are available to play immediately (even in the Full Version). Win first place in each race, and all will eventually be unlocked.

As well as Arcade mode, you can try your hand at Time Trial. This is just you on your own, racing against the clock. Missing a gate incurs a 5 second Time Penalty; miss 3 and you're disqualified, although it is possible to redeem Penalties by passing 4 gates successfully
