Hints & Tips
Unlike traditional racing games, the trick is not to maintain as straight a line as possible.
The flow speed of the water currents varies right across the width of the river. The successful strategy will take advantage of the faster currents between gates, to reduce the time taken to pass from one to another.
(Hint: The currents are more visible at higher detail levels, and new players should use this to their advantage).
Reverse gates can be identified by the diagonal bar running through the number above the gate. The best tactic is to begin your turn into the gate before you actually pass it.
In this way, the time lost in turning can be reduced and your overall loss of speed used to make a smooth "u-turn" that culminates with the nose of the kayak passing through the center of the reverse gate.
It takes practice, but your overall time for a course can be reduced considerably by the use of this tactic.
