Getting started
Star Monkey is a traditional vertical scrolling shoot-em up - blast as many things as you can and try and get
the highest score possible. Using our RocketRating system, you'll actually be battling against everyone else with a
copy of the game, as all your scores are posted to our high score server.
Fundamental to the game are Power-ups. Pick up Power Orbs and they'll light up the status bar in the bottom right of the screen.
Pressing the 'Use' key/button selects the item currently highlighted for your ship, and you lose all your power orbs.
Power orbs are released when certain enemies (or waves of enemies) are destroyed.
If an enemy hits you, your craft will be destroyed - unless you have gained enough Extend power-ups to shield yourself (see image).
In this case, you will lose your power-ups (some will be dispersed over a small area around your ship) but remain alive.
If you manage to beat level three, you will be warped back to level one - but with a few surprises in store... In particular, the number of extends
required to survive a hit has increased from three to six - so brace yourself!
RocketRating
If you have purchased the full version of Star Monkey you can compete to get the highest score using our RocketRating system.
From the main menu, choose Options, and set 'Go online' to 'Prompt' (if you have a modem connection) or 'Always'. You'll then have to log on
to our system - click on 'Login' and enter your details, or create an new account (please remember your details are case-sensitive).
Once you are logged in, you can view the global high-score table by clicking on 'Highscores'. From this screen you can also view local highscores,
by clicking on 'Local Table' at the top.
While playing, your position in the global table will be displayed in the bottom left of the screen (if you are in the top 100). After your game,
you will be asked if you wish to upload your score - you can also type a name for the local table at this point.
You can also choose to play as a group with friends - if you're only interested in scores of people you know, choose a group name
and type it in the 'Group scores' box under Options.
Please note - Your RocketRating is only updated when you are online.

Star Monkey can be controlled by keyboard, joystick and steering wheel.

Holding down the fire key results in an autofire function, which decreases in speed quite quickly.
The keys for the game are redefinable. To do this, choose 'Options' from the main menu, and click on 'Modify' next to Controls in the menu.

Please ensure your joystick is correctly configured under Windows before starting the game.
